Repair, don’t replace your Safestyle door

Safestyle doors and windows have been popular choice for  years. For most households they have been a  good value choice for new double glazing installations. But unfortunately the company went into liquidation, leaving customers with not only no warranty but no backup service. This may change in the future but at the time of writing this, it doesn’t look good.  We are here to help with Safestyle door repairs Doncaster.

The door will not open

As you are aware, you need to lift the handle to put the door into a locked position and then turn the key. The locking mechanism is called a multipoint lock. In the trade we just use the term “mech” as in mechanism.

The majority of Safestyle  doors had multipoint locks  either made  Mila or Yale . Both had  hooks incorporated into the locking strip along with rollers. The Yale  version never felt smooth but was capable of lasting up to 15 years before it failed. The Mila felt smoother to operate but after a period of time the hinges “dropped” and the hooks were too far away from the door frame. This made it difficult to lock and you often had to put pressure on the handle when lifting to get the door locked. This force is often the reason for both the multipoints used  failing.

First thing to check is…

• Will it lock when the door is open
• Will the handle lift and key turn

These points are important because it will tell us if there is an alignment issue or if the gearbox is broken. Either way the issue can be fixed .

What happens next?

Ring S F Locksmith, we will be able to get your door open and replace the faulty parts. We won’t need to cause any damage to the door getting it open and afterwards the door will be good for at least another 10 years. If the handles are worn, these can also be replaced in your choice of colour and the barrel can be upgraded to a high security antisnap lock as well.

How much is this going to cost?

If you have the Mila version an approximate cost to replace the gearbox, handles and a new barrel would be £200. That would be for a standard barrel, high security a bit more.

The Yale version is a similar price, though the handles cost a little more.
